 About your tutor

In the beginning...

I'm a performing artist and music teacher from beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. As a child, I have always been interested in music and the arts. I remember running around singing, dancing, and making music to anyone who would listen.

I started the piano at age 7, not knowing what a precious gift my parents gave me. At age 13, I got enthralled by the sound of the flute... One day after school, I saw this black case lying on my desk at home and that was the beginning of a great love, one that still continues today.

Qualified with a Masters degree in music from the University of Cape Town, under the guidance of Dr Liesl Stoltz, I teach Music to all ages. I have had the honour to attend masterclasses overseas from various professors around the world including many famous flutists such as Sir James Galway, Prof Hans Georg Schmeiser (Austria), Raphael Trevisani (Italy), Prof Phillipe Bernold and Sophie Cherrier (France).

My many years of experience has taught me that you can never stop learning and teaching is a great gift for anyone to learn from. I have taught learners from ages 4 - 75 and work with students from all walks of life.

Performing music is still my passion too, and as a flutist, I have played with many ensembles including the South African National Youth Orchestra (principal flutist) and as a soloist with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Along with a busy teaching schedule, I am also an ad hoc musician.

Music for all

Music is a personal affair.

All music should be

  • Fun to learn

  • Enriching

  • Creative outlet

  • A space to express yourself

As a tutor, I believe that every learner should receive his or her own ways of learning and having fun! Lessons are tailored to help the learners grow in a playful manner for  enriching musical skills and many other aspects of life. All lessons are supported by method books to assist learning at home.

I believe that music is about much more than just learning a skill. Perseverance, patience, creativity, dicipline and confidence are some of the most important things that music can teach you.

I can help you pin point your challenges and teach you ways of improving your specific needs to excel with your instrument.

As a specialist in contemporary music, I like to be challenged and discover new things about music and as a musician, there is always more to learn!

Do I need an instrument?

Piano: Because lessons happen in your home an instrument will be required. I can help you find the correct one, so please feel free to ask me. If the idea of purchasing a piano seems like too big a commitment, consider the flute. You'll learn the same concepts with the added benefit on strengthening your breathing.

Flute:I have instruments available for you to try out in the first lesson to find the correct size and fit. A recommendation for purchase will be made afterwards.
